Volunteers are needed for the annual cleanup, First Selectman Bill Brennan says.

Wilton was bashed by successive winter storms and more than 60 inches of snow, plus serious March flooding. Now it is ready for the traditional townwide Clean-Up Day.

On Saturday morning, April 2, the town is seeking residents volunteers to help pick up litter. Specific streets will be targeted for cleanup activity by the volunteers. Help is needed.

This year, the town is appealing to many of its community organizations for assistance. Volunteers should assemble at the gazebo in the village center at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 2. Plastic bags, gloves, etc., will be distributed and street assignments provided. Mike Conklin of the Town Department of Environmental Affairs is managing the organization of the April 2 Clean-Up Day. Please contact him at 203-563-0182 if you can assist. As in past years, residents who are unable to participate April 2 are encouraged to clean up their own neighborhoods.

The Board of Selectmen is also asking all property owners and retail businesses to sweep up the sand and other winter debris on the sidewalks abutting their properties. This will make a big improvement in the shopping environment in the center.

Lastly, the Town’s Department of Public Works will soon deploy road sweepers in the village area to clean up the streets. Parks and Grounds crews will also be supporting the cleanup activity. Crews have already started to fill potholes, but winter damage to town roads has been severe and the list of repair work is long. The patience and understanding of our citizens is most appreciated.
